Ohio Storm Damage Roof Checklist

What's on the checklist

In the first 24 hours

  • Make sure everyone is safe. Stay off the roof.
  • Photograph every side of the house, gutters, siding and any debris
  • Photograph interior leaks and ceiling stains with a date visible
  • Cover openings with a tarp only if it’s safe (save the receipts)

Filing the claim

  • Call your insurer and write down the claim number
  • Ask about your deductible and depreciation (ACV vs RCV)
  • Schedule the adjuster and ask a local roofer to attend

Avoid storm chasers

  • Out-of-state plates and no local address
  • Offers to “waive your deductible” (this is insurance fraud)
  • Pressure to sign an assignment of benefits on the spot
