How this fence calculator works

We multiply the length by a per-foot installed range for the material, adjust for height (4 ft is about 15% less than 6 ft, 8 ft about 30% more), then add each gate and optional tear-out of an old fence. Slopes, rocky soil and long hauls to the backyard raise real quotes.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a fence cost per foot in Ohio?

For a 6 ft fence, expect about $10–$20 per foot for chain link, $15–$30 for wood, $20–$40 for vinyl and $30–$50 for aluminum, installed. Height, gates, slopes and rocky soil change the price.

Do I need a permit for a fence in Ohio?

Most Ohio cities require a permit and limit height (often 4 ft in front yards, 6 ft in back). Check with your city and HOA, and call 811 before digging.

What fence lasts the longest?

Vinyl and aluminum last 20 to 30+ years with little upkeep. Pressure-treated wood lasts 10 to 15 years and needs staining or sealing.
